Business Unusual for ABSCBN North America Bureau

It must have been a slow news day once again for ABSCBN North America reporter Steve Angeles. Instead of following up on hundreds of news worthy events in the continental America, he instead chose to focus on a handful who were gathered in an event that he would use as news. In a state as big as California and in a country as big as the United States of America, I am pretty sure that there are more relevant and newsworthy events that the Filipinos in the Philippines and all over the world would be interested in. But no, he focused on this one.

He gullibly believed the hype of this event he covered which was supposed to be a ‘big-bang.’ But as it turned, out the only ‘big’ in that event is Menorca’s ego and belly, and the ‘bang’ were actually bangs of hair. He did not even try to make it a balanced report by seeking the side of the INC.

What are the reasons such a journalist will cover such an event? One cannot help but think that he could have a bias against the Iglesia ni Cristo so much so that he grabs every opportunity to report anything negative about the Church.

Or could he and these expelled INC members already have an understanding regarding coverage of their events meant to discredit the INC? Because he is always present whenever and wherever those people gather together. Remember that he also covered the failed attempt of this group of busybodies to disrupt a worship service of the Iglesia ni Cristo in Bakersfield,California last February 20. And when he got nothing from the group’s wanting effort, he instead made himself to be the story (a taboo among real journalists) by claiming that he was ‘harassed’ by members of the INC. If his claims were true then they should have already filed a case for this so-called “harassment,” (especially since the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines have already risked their reputation in trumpeting their support for him even without proper verification of the ‘incident’) Or maybe, this is not surprising anymore. His station is ABS-CBN.
