WHO GETS THE MOST OUT OF THIS ABS-CBN’S SPIN vs. INC?

Is it out of desperation that ABS-CBN continues to spread disinformation against the Iglesia Ni Cristo?

In its recent report posted in its website, the spin is quite obvious from the headline alone: “INC families resign to join defenders.” Just like the previous stories they came up with, the slant is to assert that INC is losing numbers and that it is now widely divided.

But where are the facts to back it up? No photos or videos of the said April-30 gathering of “hundreds” of expelled members were shown along with the report. There are such photos circulating in social media (which came from one of their groupmates) but those are definitely a far cry from the crowd-shots of INC faithful and their guests in recent occasions, such as the outreach-evangelical mission in Tondo on April 29.

The notion of a “silent majority” of INC dissenters that ABS-CBN is trying to float around is now much harder to believe, since the Church continues to mount crowd-drawing activities throughout the world. In southwest California, for instance, the INC is opening six new local congregations this week (May 2 to 8). The “hundreds” of so-called “defenders” in California is not even a fraction of that.

Apparently, the only source to ABS-CBN’s biased report is adultery- and libel-suspect Lowell “Boyet” Menorca. It is a giveaway that ABS-CBN has been siding with him and his bosses, the expelled Manalos—Angel, Lottie, Marc and Tenny. The media station has extensively covered their pathetic repertoire of playing the victim in public’s eyes but covertly seeking to malign and topple the current INC leadership.

This begs the question: Who gets the most out of that heavily flawed ABS-CBN story?

The group of ex-INC members? Those of them who are filled with rage and envy against the Church’s continuous success may take comfort reading this piece. But other than that, it doesn’t really accomplish anything concrete especially in so far as boosting their number.

ABS-CBN? If it seeks to get back at the INC for its members who have been boycotting the station, I don’t see how publishing such a heavily slanted story can revert the spreading disgust over ABS-CBN’s growing reputation as the most biased station in the Philippines.

The politicians ABS-CBN are rooting for—the husband of the station’s infamous anchor? Probably, the report can sway a few not to ride on the bandwagon the INC vote, but how are they sure that they will vote for their own bet?

The one who truly gets the most out of this is Menorca. He’s probably use it to boost his application for refugee status in Canada, alone and free, without his pregnant wife and child by his side.
